I'm Karen, Founder, Assessor and Lead Tutor at My Primary and Secondary Tutor. I started my career as a class teacher but after serving as an Acting Deputy Head Teacher, I took a career break to start a family. Stepping back from the busy classroom environment gave me a new perspective on education. I realised that while schools do incredible work, the traditional classroom setting cannot always provide the highly individualised support some children need to truly thrive.
Drawn to a different way of making an impact, I began offering one-to-one and small group tuition from my garden summer house. This shift was eye-opening. As an educator, seeing the immediate difference that tailored, focused attention could make was powerful. It was not just about improving academic outcomes; it was about rebuilding a child’s confidence, self-belief and fundamental attitude towards learning. Witnessing those 'lightbulb moments', when the pressure lifted and concepts finally clicked, reaffirmed exactly why I became a teacher.
As word spread, the demand for this specific type of supportive, expert-led tuition grew beyond what I could provide alone. To help more children experience these breakthroughs, My Primary and Secondary Tutor was born.
Since then, our team has grown year on year, supporting families across Scotland, the wider UK, and beyond. While we have been proud to receive industry recognition for our work, our core mission remains exactly the same as it was in that summer house: providing the expert, personalised support children need to close gaps, build confidence and rediscover their love of learning.
At My Primary & Secondary Tutor, we are committed to Building Confidence Together, supporting both primary and secondary pupils to thrive academically and emotionally.
Our online tutoring is delivered by highly qualified, experienced primary and secondary teachers who are passionate about helping every child achieve their full potential. But what truly sets us apart is our personalised approach, starting with a deep understanding of each child’s individual needs.
As Lead Assessor, I offer comprehensive diagnostic assessments designed to identify gaps in learning, pinpoint strengths, and uncover the root causes of any challenges. This ensures that every tutoring programme is tailored, targeted and impactful from the very beginning with no guesswork, just clarity and direction.
Our primary tutors are experienced in both the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence and the English National Curriculum , while our secondary specialists support pupils working towards National Qualifications, Highers, GCSEs and A Levels.
We support pupils across the full ability range from those needing to rebuild confidence and close learning gaps, to those seeking challenge. Every session is carefully designed to reduce stress and anxiety, helping your child feel supported, capable and in control of their learning and all from the comfort and safety of home.
Join us at My Primary & Secondary Tutor and empower your child to reach their full potential, building confidence and achieving academic success.
Our online tutoring sessions are designed to help your child build confidence. Our subject-specific primary and secondary tutors take the time needed to ensure each pupil thoroughly understands their coursework. With weekly feedback and follow-up tasks for home practice, your child will be able to refine their skills and further boost their confidence.
Increased confidence often leads to improved motivation. My Primary and Secondary Tutor online sessions are tailored to support classroom learning. Your child will be motivated and feel more self-assured in school as our online tutors help them get ahead with their coursework. Our pupils often comment on the satisfaction of working on topics in school that they've already covered in their sessions.
Increased confidence and motivation usually result in improved performance. At My Primary and Secondary Tutor, we recognise that each pupil is unique, and the outcomes and time to achieve progress will vary. Our online sessions are tailored to the needs of your child to ensure they make steady progress at their own pace.
We understand that every family’s situation is unique but here are some of the most common concerns we support:
1. Learning Gaps or Lost Confidence
Your child may have experienced disrupted learning or has fallen behind. Our assessments identify exactly where support is needed, allowing us to rebuild both skills and confidence step by step.
2. Lack of Confidence in Key Subjects
If your child is struggling with maths or English, this can quickly impact their overall confidence. Our tailored support helps them experience success, regain belief in their abilities and make real progress.
3. Transitioning from Primary to Secondary
The move to secondary school can feel overwhelming. We provide targeted support to help pupils adjust, stay on track academically and feel more confident in this new environment.
